eRead Illinois Transition from Boundless to Palace Project

Submitted by Olivia Montolin on

Background

With the closure of Baker & Taylor, the Boundless platform will be sunset by the end of 2025. To maintain access to the eRead Illinois collection, the eRead team selected Palace Project, managed by Lyrasis, to continue that partnership.

What normally takes months to transition a collection and library subscriber base of this size now has to be done in several weeks. SWAN is working closely with both the eRead Illinois team and Lyrasis to ensure a smooth transition.

Important Dates

  • November 17: The Boundless app will be retired for eRead Illinois
  • November 17-December 1: Migration of content to Palace Project
  • December 2: The Palace Project app will go live with the eRead Illinois collection. Patrons may begin downloading the app and signing in.

Scope

Only current eRead Illinois subscribers are being migrated to Palace Project. Each subscribing library will receive:

  • Its own instance of Palace Project
  • Access to Collection Manager
  • Access to Palace Project Marketplace
  • Access to the Palace Project Bookshelf
  • Integration of additional e-content into the Palace Project app
  • Integration of Palace Project in the library catalog (Aspen and SWAN Libraries+ app)

Expectations

SWAN will:

  • Set up authentication of library patrons for the Palace Project app
  • Work with Lyrasis to ensure additional e-content integration
  • Setup integration of Palace Project (eRead Illinois) content into Aspen and the SWAN Libraries+ app

eRead Illinois subscribing libraries that are also SWAN members are expected to:

  • Provide test patrons to Lyrasis
  • Test staff access to Collection Manager and Marketplace
  • Test the Palace Project login once available

Support

Lyrasis is hosting two webinars for library staff to learn more about the Palace Project:

A recording will be sent to attendees and posted to the eRead Illinois website after Thursday, November 13.

Future

The focus for now is to onboard current eRead Illinois libraries. Once that process is complete, membership opportunities will open to additional libraries in Illinois.
