Bibliographic Services Consultant (Hybrid)

Position Description

Are you looking to join a cross-functional team dedicated to serving 100 libraries in the Chicago metropolitan area? Are you interested in using your knowledge of cataloging and technical services operations to provide training and services for a consortium of 100 member libraries and over 1.9 million residents?

We are looking for an experienced team member for our Bibliographic Services team. The full-time position comes with a starting salary range of $63,000 to $79,000 and comes with medical insurance benefits, employer 401k contributions, and a hybrid work environment where employees work from home in a virtual environment with team members. We require being on-call for system support on an occasional basis and for scheduled visits at libraries when need arises. 

Responsibilities

  • Designs and delivers on-site and virtual training (webinars, self-paced online trainings, and in-person seminars) to member library staff to assist in cataloging and acquisitions workflow processes
  • Consults with member library staff on cataloging and acquisitions procedures and special projects
  • Performs original cataloging of print and non-print materials
  • Collaborates with team manager and member libraries to develop and monitor cataloging best practices, policies, and procedures
  • Leads ongoing cataloging maintenance and quality assurance measures, including record evaluation and communications
  • Creates and maintains procedural documentation and training materials
  • Serves on rotating team to monitor, route, and respond to incoming support tickets related to bibliographic data and acquisitions maintenance
  • Attends and coordinates membership interest group, advisory, and committee meetings
  • Participates in planning and execution of migration of new libraries into SWAN, with special focus on the training of staff and quality assurance of incoming bibliographic data
  • Serves as part of the SWAN Consultants Team in identifying membership needs and working towards solutions and efficiencies

Qualifications

  • MLS/MLIS degree from an accredited institution
  • Four (4) or more years of library technical services work experience.
  • Two (2) or more years of original cataloging experience using OCLC and LC subject headings.
  • Extensive knowledge of technical services operations and procedures using OCLC.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of current cataloging practices for both print and non-print materials, including MARC format, RDA, LC subject headings and other LC policies and procedures.

Group Health, Dental, Vision

Optional insurance will be offered to employees who work 30 hours or more.  SWAN will pay 80% of the insurance premium for full-time staff and 70% of the insurance premium for their spouse and dependents.

Retirement Plan

SWAN offers a 401(a) retirement plan and contributes 9.75% to the plan.  SWAN also offers 457(b) and IRA Roth plans.  

Vacation Benefit

Full-time employees are awarded 20 days annually on a pro-rated basis.

Sick Leave Benefit

Employees earn sick leave at the rate of 1 day per month worked.

Personal Time Benefit

Full-time employees will receive three paid personal days each at the start of the fiscal year.

Life Insurance

Life insurance is available to all full-time employees of SWAN at no cost to the employee. If a staff member passes away the designated beneficiary would receive a benefit of 1 x their salary up to $50,000, plus an additional $20,000.

Disability Insurance

Full-time employees receive short-term and long-term disability insurance at no cost to the employee.

Wellness Benefit

All staff may receive a wellness reimbursement of up to $35/month or $420/year (taxed) toward eligible wellness expenses, such as gym memberships, fitness classes or competitions, nutritionists, smoking cessation programs, or health screenings.

Tuition Benefit

All staff are eligible for tuition reimbursement of up to $1,000 per year for applicable coursework, certifications, or other programs (upon approval and successful completion).
