Propose a session

The 2026 SWAN Expo will be held in person at the NIU Naperville Meeting and Conference Center on August 21st, 2026. Please submit proposals by May 4th, 2026. If your proposal is selected, your registration fee will be waived.

Presentation types

Presentation

A 45-minute session to present a topic or case study. If co-presenting, please let us know who you plan to run the session with or how you plan to find a presentation partner. In certain cases, SWAN staff may be available to co-present on a topic.

Panel

A 45-minute session presented by a group of 3 or more people. Often each panelist will give a short presentation, though the session may also emphasize a Q&A portion. You do not need to have all panelists lined up to propose a panel.

Roundtable

A 45-minute discussion session in which attendee participation is the focus. In proposing a roundtable, your responsibility will be to lead the discussion and generate questions to facilitate a conversation that lasts the course of the session.

Lightning Talk

A 15- to 20-minute presentation on a topic that does not lend itself to a full 45-minute session. You may partner with another SWAN member to propose multiple lightning talks linked by a theme to take place together. If proposing a lightning talk, you may be paired with another lightning talk to compose a larger session.

Poster Talk

A visual presentation displayed on a large, printed poster, allowing attendees to browse at their own pace or engage in discussion with the presenter for further details. Posters will be visible throughout the day, with time dedicated for the presenter to stand near them during high-traffic times.

Selection process

You can submit proposals through May 4th, 2026. Preference will be given to topics that discuss SWAN's shared library platform, but we will also consider any proposals of interest to the SWAN membership. If selected, you will have a SWAN staff member assigned to your presentation to assist with logistics.

This year's conference does not have a computer lab available.
