Notes
The group discussed some new features available to enable in Aspen as of the last release.
We opted to leave the "Where is it?" display option to "Summary" view, which condenses the number of copies displayed (e.g. "2 of 4 available"). The alternate option would display each copy and status individually, which can get long and unwieldy to scroll through for titles with many copies.
We also discusses the "Also in this series" display option for full record pages, which would show a carousel series display based on the Aspen series pages. We decided to turn this option on just for the SWAN consortium catalog, so we can further consider whether or not to enable it. Series are also displayed in the Syndetics Unbound integration on the full record pages.
SWAN is looking at phase two of our keyword search filters configuration. We've asked the group to add any ideas for additional keyword filters in the SWAN forums. DUX and the Cataloging Working Group will have a chance to review proposed changes in their July meetings.
Lucas McKeever shared some proposed changes to languages and the language filter in Aspen. We've proposed setting a primary language in the catalog, which the language filter would use. This would mitigate the issue of language filters returning many DVD and Blu-ray records that have many languages on the record.
Roselle is hosting a usability test in September. In advance of our July meeting, DUX will assemble potential usability testing tasks and finalize the testing script.
Finally the group reviewed and discussed their homework, filling in the Plus/Delta activity and gathering exemplar accounts. Following the meeting, Tara Wood will prepare a set of potential features and fixes for the group to prioritize. Some of these features may be able to be tested in our September usability test as well.
