Mentor Programs

SWAN mentor programs are designed to assist individuals new to a specific role within their library. There are currently two mentor programs, one is for Circulation Managers and the other is for anyone who has Interlibrary Loan duties.

New library staff within these roles will benefit from having a contact who prioritizes a consortium-wide perspective over individual library procedures.

Circulation Manager Mentor Program

Mentors will be assigned by SWAN staff; all mentors are current Circulation Managers and are part of the SWAN Circulation Working Group.  Once assigned, the mentor will reach out and see if you have any specific questions. For a year, your mentor will be in contact, showing various resources and answering questions you might have. For some possible topics, visit the Circulation Managers Checklist page.

Interlibrary Loan Mentor Program

Mentors will be assigned by SWAN staff. Once assigned, the mentor will work with you on specific questions and best practices. Mentors are volunteers who have at least one year of experience in their role. For topics to go over and discuss, visit the training checklist page.
