Circulation Working Group

The Circulation Working Group works alongside SWAN staff to create recommendations for better circulation practices. Members also serve as mentors for new Circulation Managers.

Membership

SWAN Circulation Working Group is a 9-member working group. Members of this group are elected by their peers each fall on a rotating basis. One year 4 members are elected, while the next year 5 are elected. Elected members serve a 2-year term.

Self-Nomination

The SWAN Circulation Working Group is now accepting self-nominations for four vacancies. Elected representatives serve a two-year term. 

Any Head of Circulation/Circulation Manager or a staff member with oversight of the Circulation Department at a SWAN member library is eligible to serve on the Group. This self-nomination form will generate the list of candidates for the upcoming SWAN Circulation Working Group election in early November. 

Working Group members need to commit to attending four meetings a year. Meetings are scheduled via Zoom on the third Wednesday of January, March, July, and November.  

This statement will be on the election ballot. Please tell us why you want to serve on this group and what you can contribute.

Responsibilities

Elected members should expect to attend and participate in the 4 scheduled meetings each year. Members should also be active participants on the group portal, completing all research within the given deadline. Members must be able to serve as mentors for the Circulation Mentor Program, which may include visits to mentee libraries.

All discussions and research topics are guided by the following principles: 

  • Consensus building leads to constructive progress
  • Consortium-wide perspective is prioritized over individual library procedures
  • Patron experiences guides recommendations
  • Cooperation between other Working Groups creates a better consortium 

Meetings

This group meets four times per year. Meetings are not recorded, but the chair provides notes for each meeting and any additional updates to the membership on group activity as needed through regular SWAN communications channels.
